Part1. Deleting Instagram pictures on a mobile device
Part2. Can I delete multiple photos at once?
To select several images, you can press on the desired photos individually until they turn blue; or, you can hold down on an image while tapping the other images you would like to select, and then tap Done at the top.
To delete multiple photos at once, tap More at the top of the screen.
Then tap Edit, Clear Selection, and Delete.
Part3. How to delete Tagged Photos
Just in case you have snapped something on Instagram you would like to hide from other users (friends, family, etc.), you can select your photos on Instagram, set them to private and even forget the hashtags. You will need to go to "Photos of me" section and do a long press (tap & hold) on the photo you want to make private.
Click "Make Private" from the pop up menu. For a quick access go to profile > tap the picture you want to privatize > Scroll down until you find the message "Are you sure you want to make this photo private?". Then click on "Make Private". This will remove the photo from your feed and the "Photos of You" section, but it will still be visible to anyone that likes you (@'d you) or is following you.
So for a more thorough job, you will need to go to the Tags section and remove the hashtags for all the people you don't want seeing your photo. You can go to the photo you want to delete and tap the three dots in the top right corner and select "Tags" to remove them from the photo.
Part4. How do I recover photos I’ve deleted?
There’s an app for that!
If you’ve deleted a photo or bunch of photos and now you’re feeling kind of sad because of that, there’s a way to get them back!
While you’re online, take a look at the @Instagram account.
As a matter of fact, there’s a page full of free software that is capable of recovering deleted photos, some of which are:
- EaseUS Photo Recovery Wizard (freeware);
- Recuva (freeware);
- PhotoRec (Open source);
- BacPac (free with limited features);
Dr.Fone for iOS (Paid software);
Recover Photos (Paid Software);
PhotoRescue (Paid software).
This way, you could try to restore your photos and see if it works. If you’re lucky, you’ll get your photos back.
The process of data recovery after it’s been deleted is not instant and it takes time, but try to avoid using the device prior to the completion of the process.
Part5. What if I’m using Instagram on a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox
If you want to clear your Instagram feed of photos that have been already sent to other people through Instagram's Direct feature, this may be easier because you will be looking at a list, rather than scrolling though multiple photos.
First, log onto your Instagram account on the web.
You can find the little gear icon in the top-right hand corner of the whole Instagram site. From there, choose " Settings " from the drop-down menu.
On the next screen, select " Privacy and Security ".
Scroll to the bottom of the page and there should be an option labeled "Direct" with a link beside it. Click that link and you may see a list of all the photos you've sent out to people through Instagram Direct.
Find the photos you'd like to delete and click the black Trash Can icon that appears to the right of each photo.
One at a time, each photo will disappear off your main feed on Instagram, even if you're still in your account's main feed view.
